Producers & Distributors of Organic Fruit & Vegetables
To help you lead an achievable healthy and organic lifestyle we grow and supply only fully certified organic vegetables.
We have five acres of fully certified organic vegetables.
Outside we grow: beetroot, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celeriac, kale, lettuce, parsnips, potatoes, rhubarb, romanesco, and turnips.
We have 16,000 sq feet of protected cropping for vegetables which need more heat to grow well.
Our protected cropping consists of 5 polytunnels with automatic irrigation. We have 2 polytunnels at 1,000 sq feet, 2 more at 2,000 sq feet, and our latest polytunnel covers 10,000 sq feet.
Under cover we grow: aubergine, celery, courgette, cucumber, french beans, lettuce, root fennel, pepper, strawberrys and tomatoes.
When our stocks are not sufficient to meet the demands of our customers, we purchase vegetables from other Irish Organic farmers.
We also import a pallet of Organic fruit and some vegetables from Holland every week.
Fruit such as Bananas have been eaten in Ireland for decades. For so long, that they are no longer considered exotic. But, we are still unable to grow our own!
Naturally, our range of products varies from season to season throughout the year.
From June to October we harvest salads: aubergine, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, celeriac, celery, courgette, cucumber, french beans, kale, parsnip, peppers, potato, pumpkin, tomato and turnip.
From November to March we harvest: cabbage, carrots, parsnip, and turnip; winter salads: brussel sprouts, kale, beetroot; and small amounts of broccoli, cauliflower and celery.
The "hungry gap" is traditionally from March to May, when last years harvest is almost gone or has gone to seed and this years spring sowings are not big enough to eat. Fortunately for our customer we buy from other growers in Ireland and import from abroad so we have most veg and fruit all year around.
The best of seasonal produce!
• Broccoli, cabbage, carrots, leeks, lettuce, potatoes, scallions, yomatoes, and more...
More than just fruit and veg!
• Eggs, pork, bacon and sausages (available from February 2008).
We are also suppliers of bulk orders to our wholesale customers and associates Martin Halliday Products.
• Organic cheeses, humus, olives, sun dried tomatoes, wine and pasta sauces.
Naturally, our range of products varies throughout the year. With our heated polytunnels, and with the heat of spring, summer and autumn, we can enjoy a much wider variety of home-grown produce, thus relying less on imports. However, in wintertime the choice is narrower.
We import what we cannot produce to give our customer a wider selection, and for those who wish to enjoy luxuries, such as Galia melon at Christmas or fresh tomatoes, peppers and courgettes for St. Patrick’s Day, we try to buy from as close to home as possible, usually inside the EU. However, we buy Bananas and Pineapples from such places as the Dominican Republic and Ghana all year around.
• Chemical fertilizer and pesticide free. (We use natural pelletted organic standard chicken manure, seaweed dust fertilizers, soil conditioners, lime, and farm yard manure.)
• Reduced carbon emissions through a short distance from source to customer.
• Kinder to the environment, and kinder to you!
• More of the goodness, and less of the badness!
• "Organic food is more nutritious..." - Read the full Soil Association article (opens in new window).
